Prologue

return to The History of Bergary

The Greater World (or Terrassi evenloppire-un-krossire) did not begin until Yahleohym, the master of everything there ever was, is, or ever will be, formed it from his own thoughts.  From his home of Udridor, Yahleohym conceived the Greater World from his imagination.  The rocks protruded from the depths of the voids and seas swelled up the surrounding plains.  To inhabit this new world the lord Yahleohym set the great trees of old.  Three of the greatest trees, Halalooum, Minard, and Falume, were set as the Archtrees; wise and tall, the Archtrees ruled over oak, chestnut, fir and beech for years beyond count.  Yahleohym spoke through these great trees of old and commanded thus the low-lying and prostrate plants of the forests and fields of the Greater World.  No records exist from this time before time due mainly to inability of the trees to record.

By and by, a great winter came over the Greater World and many of the ancient great trees were frozen to the core.  Minard the tallest Archtree died in its sleep during the great frosts of that winter and from its dreams emerged the jinn, who sprang from the cracks in its bark.  Ten-hundred thousand emerged from Minard.  Each of the jinn drew in the cold air and looked upwards toward the white snowing sky and laughed and sang praises to Yahleohym.  Yahleohym came down to them and gave them command of the Greater World, for the Archtrees had grown stiff and were unable to keep the plants in any order.  To the three strongest and wisest of the Jinn he gave the scepters of the cosmos and he gave them names.  The wisest was called Raqorl, the strongest was called Maragil, and bravest he named Lykorl.  These three Archjinn each led separate groups of the jinn west out of the Snowy Mountains (Kaodoal-Daodum treedom of Minard). Raqorl's Jinn, who were called the Dunjinn, were the least in numbers. Maragil, who was a friend to Raqorl, led the Majinn.  And Lykorl, who was the bravest and most courageous of the three led the great host, called the Sijinn.  The Dunjinn were the first to leave the Snowy Mountains in the year 64 of the first age of the Jinn.  The following year, the Majinn and Sijinn followed.  In the lands below the mountains, Raqorl and the Dunjinn healed many of the frost-bitten trees and nurtured the prostrated plants to health.

Many children were born to all three hosts of the Jinn, during these years.  Their children were smaller than they, and were weaker and more fragile.  Even with age the children of the Jinn did not mature.  The children were nurtured and protected by the Jinn, who pitied them and loved them dearly.  The Dunjinn entered the land known as Yalonae in the year 700 Iנ and the Majinn did in 881.  Raqorl and Maragil immediately united their peoples to form the Shotachim and then began the foundation of "The Principality" that would represent Yahleohym in an earthly paradise.  But the Sijinn did not reach Yalonae and The Princepality of the Shotachim for greed had filled Lykorl's heart as well as lust for power and glory in the world.  Many of the Sijinn abandoned their mad lord and reached Yalonae in 1154 Iנ, but more remained with Lykorl.  Yahleohym came to Lykorl that year in rage.  After Lykorl called Yahleohym a liar and a tyrant, Yahleohym stripped Lykorl of his name and beauty.  Lykorl became hideous along with all his subjects.  He was called Beorgoth from then on, for he was no longer Lykorl except in memory.  Beorgoth led his subjects into Tumbarlaa, west of Yalonae, and there he established his own lordship over the Na-Nuri-Hakim (or demons as they are called today)

The Shotachim of "The Principality" hid many of their weak and fragile children in a distant land called Iliat, but some of the children were stolen by Beorgoth (these were called the Farshim) and were bred as slaves in Tumbarlaa for centuries.  Beorgoth sought to expand his domain and so he appointed three to act as his lieutenants.  He chose three to mock Yahleohym for choosing three Archjinn.  Beorgoth's lieutenants were Faloz, Keorlan, and Duwine and they were called the Hai-Nakulaluim (or Archdemons).  Maragil and Raqorl rebuked Beorgoth for his fell deeds and waged war against him to free the Farshim and expel him from the earth.  But Beorgoth's force outnumbered those of "The Principality" and neither side could gain an upper hand even after centuries of war.

Many of the children of the Jinn that were sent to Iliat became even weaker and went insane as they grieved the absence of their parents, but some learned of the events of the world and understood why they had been left.  These sought to aid the Jinn of Yalonae and many began to swim across the open sea to reach "The Principality."  After several weeks, they sank to the ocean floor because they lacked the strength to continue swimming.  But on the ocean floor, these people found comfort and tranquility.  They built a kingdom there under the sea in 1300 Iנ and called it Denstair, the Underwater kingdom.  Faorl was made a king in Denstair and a palace was built in his honor.  Faorl was just and good and always harkened upon Yahleohym in time of need.  A great need came when Faorl learned of Beorgoth and his war with the Shotachim.  In a dream Yahleohym commanded Faorl to take part in the fight against the Na-Nuri-Hakim.  A great fleet of timber ships, filled with warriors of Denstair, sailed on the north winds to the Island of Antildy.
